Introducing Activating Change’s free Sign Language Interpreter Service for Deaf Victims
Activating Change’s Sign Language Interpreting Service for Deaf Victims provides qualified, trauma-informed remote sign language interpretation services using safe and secure technology – free of charge – to any victim service provider in the United States.
We know how challenging it can be for victim service providers to find qualified interpreters for Deaf victims of crime. Not having interpreters is the number one hurdle faced by these individuals as they seek services. We are here to help close that gap.
This service is provided directly by Activating Change and has been in the pilot stage for the last year. It has already made a significant difference in the lives of Deaf victims.
This service is available right now, free of charge, to you and your community partners.
To get a sign language interpreter, making a request is an easy four-step process.
Fill out a simple online request form at ActivatingChange.org/interpreting. You’ll share relevant information about the assignment, excluding victim identifying information.
Our team will review your form and will assign the interpreter(s) who is the best match for the request. This process can happen as quickly as the same day, and is guaranteed within 48 hours.
You will receive an email confirmation with the name(s) of the confirmed interpreters and the Zoom link for the event.
You will connect to your assigned interpreter(s) via the Zoom link we provide. You’ll spend the first few minutes giving the interpreter and the victim time to meet and discuss language. Then, your meeting will begin.
Please share widely with your networks, as we are excited to offer this service to as many service providers as possible.
Any victim service organization in the United States is eligible to participate at any time, for any victim of crime from the Deaf community.
(At this time, we cannot provide interpretation services for law enforcement, prosecution and courts, or healthcare services.)
